use drive imaging software, you can save image to USB key and then restore back onto new drive.

I dont' know about putting in a 7200rpm drive in netbooks, I like the WD 320GB. The Hitachi drives use more power than either the WD or Seagate, the 120GB 5k320 I pulled out showed 700ma power draw, whereas the Seagate 320GB 5400.5 showed ~450ma. Seagate 5400.5 has high access time but I don't really notice it.

Go for any of the latest generation 7200rpm drives. They have power consumption very similar to 5400rpm drives, and they are much faster. You can get single platter 160gb drives for less than $100, and in some places you can get the 250gb /320gb variants for less than $150.

good point Andy, the eee is thin and small, so you may notice more vibration with the 7200rpm drives.
Go for the 5k320 if your worried about vibration.

Does the EEE have any rubber in the harddrive caddy?
If it does that will help avoid some of the vibration, but if it doesnt your palmrests may vibrate causing your hands to tingle after long periods of use.
