So I've finally got a laptop, the Acer Travelmate 4202WLMi. I'm looking to upgrade the ram and get a larger battery (I believe I read somewhere 8-cell is the biggest for this computer).
So now I'm wondering, will any 200-pin SODIMM stick work in this computer, or do I have to look for particular specifications? I hope I'm not stuck with buying Acer ram. As well, on Ebay I noticed that there are 200-pin SODIMMs but they have been used with Macbooks, will they still work for this acer?
As for the laptop battery, I'm thoroughly confused. In the manual it states I can use a 71W, 59.2W 8-cell or a 44W 6-cell. How does this translate into mAh that everyone uses when they sell the batteries? Does brand matter for this as well? I've heard that people have killed their laptops by using a generic brand.
Thanks in advance for the help!

1.) Yep any 200 pin SODIMM is what you want--get either 533 or 667 MHz memory--the speed will be very similar because of the higher latency on the faster memory-purchase whatever is cheaper.
2.) I would recommend buying batteries from the manufacturer, especially on a new computer. -

Hi
I wouldnot trust a generic brand ... you never know!
when I bought mine I called the call center but they now have a webshop :
http://store.acer-euro.com/. look at the specs. -
Can you tell us the voltage on your current battery, then we can tell you the mah, or amperage of the battery you are looking for.
For memory, I would look into getting 4Gb of pc5300 memory, from a good memory manufacturer, such as kingston, corsair, crucial, patriot or ocz. Basically just make sure that the memory comes with a lifetime warranty.
