    The surest way is to post what CPU it is here. I'm pretty sure the 6400/1505 uses the Napa mobile CPU's (667 MHz front side bus, T7200/T7400/T7600 are examples), and that you could upgrade to T7600 at the highest (2.33 GHz), or T7400 as second best (2.16 GHz, probably much cheaper). However, posting your exact CPU to verify my (not entirely random) guess would be a good idea. You can identify your CPU with CPU-z.

    For memory you'll want 200-pin DDR2 DIMMS. You'll be able to take advantage of 400 MHz, 533 MHz, and 667 MHz memory of 200-pin DDR2 DIMM type - 800 MHz won't help you any more than 667 MHz. I'm not sure what the maximum the 6400 can support is - either 2 GB or 4 GB (total).

    Yup, I have a E1505/inspiron 6400. You can upgrade to a maximum of 2gb of Pc5300 memory and a T7600 processor. The T7600 is a complete rip off unless you know someone getting rid of it for cheap. The T7200 and T7400 are a much better buy in terms of bang for the buck.
    what cpu do you have now?
    and why is it that you need a cpu upgrade?
    I have a T5300 in my E1505, and with a lean copy of XP it performs very well.

    You may want to start by cleaning up your registry with MSCONFIG, before upgrading. To run msconfig. click on the start button or the orb in vista, and go to the run command. Type in msconfig. than go to the startup and services tabs and shut off all applications, services, processes and such which you are not using. That will free up memory, harddrive and cpu cycles allowing for the resources to be used by the rest of teh system, thus making it perform much better.
    Also the max graphics card is the ATi X1400. The go 7300 from nVidia or the X1300 can be upgraded to the X1400.

    What will happen if i put 800-bus t7800 in my 9400, will it work at 667? I am thinking of upgrading too slow T7200, but T7600 won't give enough additional power...

    (Inspiron 9400 ?)
    T7800 won't fit because it is Socket P. Your notebook only supports Socket M CPUs.
    (i.e. T7200/T7400/T7600 -> higher end)

    the T7200,T7400 and T7600 processors are still very fast processors, so its not like it will be slow. Your laptop with a T7600 will beat out most laptops on the market in gaming and performance, cause yours has dedicated graphics and supports the 7900series from nVidia, which still beats out most laptop graphics cards.

    What cpu do you have now in your system?

    I have T7200 installed and it's way slow for me. I am hobbiest-musicant who uses Cubase 3sx + USB audiocard. And this CPU doesn't give me an ability to add enough (even) FX plugins. Musicants know what I am talking about... :(
    Videocard (7900gs bios-overclocked). Its too slow too, you need to have at least 7950gtx to get playable fps in modern (0-2 year old) games using something above middle quality settings...Ofcourse I may upgrade my 7900 but I haven't seen 7950gtx neither quadro fx 2600m on ebay for affordable price last time.

    As I see its time to look for a new laptop :)

    keep me in mind if your ever selling that T7200 ;)

    by the weigh the fx2500m is whats compatible with your system, not the 2600m
