Notebook: Acer Extensa 5220 with Intel Celeron 560 (2.13 ghz) and Intel 965 Chipset.

Similar laptop with different processor is reviewed here

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4549

I want to upgrade it with this socket P processor

    Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5 Ghz

    http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLA9S

Is this upgrade possible on this laptop. I think the processor is compatible with the motherboard but I read in the specs that the Celeron which it comes with has a TDP of 31W where as thsi C2d has a TDP of 35W. Will it make a difference? And any bios issues?

    Thanks

If it's Socket P on a 965 chipset, you may be able to use processors even better than that. My Studio 1535 has the PM965 chipset and Socket P, and I have a T9500 in there. 31 to 35W shouldn't make much difference, but there may not be BIOS support.

Assuming you've got BIOS support, you should be able to use any 800MHz FSB Socket P processor right up through the X9000. If you've got that T5250 on hand, there's no reason not to try it.

^Agreed. I made a pretty big leap myself when I went from the T5750 (2.0GHz/667 FSB) to my current T9500, the highest T-series processor available for the 965 chipset. The X9000 may or may not work; it draws 45W instead of the T-series' 35.

Well it isn't exactly on hand situation on hand, but getting the extensa and the c2d dirty cheap from two different sources. So just confirming before i shell out the money for this experiment.
