My alienware m15x currently has a intel i5 430m cpu and was looking to upgrade it to a i7 920xm cpu.

Im just wondering has anyone done this before or something similar and would it be compatible with my laptop. Also would be helpful if somebody has a aw m15x laptop and has changed the cpu in it before and would like some tips on changing my cpu as i have never done it before.

Yes, you can upgrade to a 920XM, you may need to have the 9 cell battery though. You should check the Alienware M15x section for more info.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you don't have a 9 cell, it will have power problems. You could always go ahead and buy the 920XM, and if it has problems get the 9 cell.

just a side note--920qm is simply not worth.I mean i5 is overkill for most tasks
    better get 720qm!
