    Hi all,

I have a laptop Toshiba satellite A500-17X, which has the Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 processor with VT disabled.
I would like to replace the existing processor with more powerful one, especially VT enabled.
I know how to take apart my laptop. My doubt is what processor to choose. I need to make sure it is quite powerful and suitable to my laptop.
Can I get an advise on that, please?

    Thanks,
    Sergey.

This thread might be better posted in the Toshiba thread. All I can say is Toshiba like to whitelist CPUs in the BIOS and they like to use gimped chipsets.

    Hi Tsunade_Hime,

    Thanks for your reply.
How can I check if my laptop's BIOS has CPU in whitelist? And if so, is there any BIOS editor I can use to overwrite those?

No OEM is going to release officially supported CPUs but a few, eg Alienware/Dell, Lenovo, HP. You would most likely need a custom BIOS and those have inherent risks, aka bricking your motherboard. It's probably not worth it.
