Hi, I would like to upgrade the AMD Athlon64 mobile 3400+ in my Acer Aspire 1524 WLMi notebook. I know that the notebook has a Chipset: VIA K8M800 (northbridge K8M800 + southbridge VT8237 PCI bridge [K8T800 South]).
How could I upgrade my CPU ? Just in case I would like to change CPU, for lately it is giving me some problems, it suddenly starts to overheat and the computer turns off.
I was thinking to change Hard disk too. First question what hard disk to buy ? And, silly question: where the hard disk is located inside this notebook ? I was able to check memories, cpu, other components, but I was unable to figure out where and how to remove hard disk.

    Thanks

    Francesco

I do not know exactly what your laptop is, but if you are getting cpu heat issues, two ways to surely help would be to undervolt (link in sig) and apply new thermal paste. Additionaly, the easiest of fixes is to clean out your fan with some compressed air and get either an active or passive cooling pad/solution. It can save you some money :) By way of the hard drive, I have no idea; maybe pop off some of the covers on the back and explore.

Thank you for your reply. You have been very kind.
My problem is that I need a solution working for both Linux and Windows. So I was thinking about an hardware solution.

The 3400+ in your laptop is a socket 754 AMD Athlon 64 single core processor. The fastest processor which can be installed into your laptop is the 2.4Ghz 3700+, which is not too much of an upgrade.
