So I've had my dv6119us hp for a while now and it's time to go to college. Since I plan on majoring in physics and possibly mech engineering, I feel like I should get a faster processor (I don't think the 1.6GHz dual core will cut it) and I would prefer not to drop 500 on a desktop. I know a lot about computers but am pretty clueless when it comes to processors, so I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm basically just going to spit out all the info from my current cpu that I can find:
Current CPU: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-50 (1.6GHz, 256KB + 256KB L2 cache, up to 1600MHz system bus)
I don't really know what to look for in terms of compatability, any help would be awesome

You should be able to drop in a TL-60 (2ghz) or TL-64 (2.2ghz). Just make sure that CPU matches your current CPU Core.

Oh wow, that's a serious price jump up from desktop cpus...throwing in something like an athalon would be impossible, right?

Yea I meant the desktop version, sorry. And oh well, I figured since I didn't really care about the battery life of my laptop (no battery, always on ac power) the desktop would work, but I guess not. What's the difference between the TK and the TL?
And anybody know any places to just buy a laptop processor? Everywhere I look it's just desktops, but I did find this one place with the TL

on the other paw, brand new dual core 15" machines can be had for at little as $400-

Hmm i have the tl-50 to and the same dv6119us as you. Does yours run a little hot?
-
-
I did put on as5 and the temps got so much better
-
Yea man, actually I was almost about to buy a desktop because my hp was starting to get so hot I thought it wouldn't last the summer, even with my cooling fan underneath. But then I took a whole can of compressed air and it's cooled down significantly.
And yea I know I could get something new, but if I did I would get a desktop (I just got a 1000HE Eeepc for taking to class), just because I like the easier accessibility/cheaper price. I just figured that everything was working fine with my laptop that it would be a little bit of a waste to completely scrap it for something new. -
Oh, and would it be possible to put in an intel chip, as they are easier to find? I vaguely remember hearing something about not being able to swap out based on the motherboard, but I really don't know.
-
You would not be able to put an Intel CPU in there.
-
Lol put some thermal paste and clean out the fan and you notice at least 10-15 C Drop.

I was able to pick a TL-60 on ebay for around $60. When i was looking TL-58's were around $50.
