I want to upgrade the CPU on my Toshiba A305-6872. I read on another post that I could upgrade to T9300. It has P socket and 800mhz (the requirements per the other post). It currently has T5800. I been able to find this CPU for around $50 and just want to make sure the info from the other post is correct. I not only want the upgrade for speed, but also because I need hardware virtualization (VT) and the T9300 does have it (checked on Intel site). I've worked on older Toshiba laptop and you could just pull the CPU and replace it. Is it the same with this model. It's running Vista Home Premium (though I plan to upgrade). When I pull and replace the CPU, will I need to update drivers, BIOS, other? Or, will the system just recognize the new CPU and automatically start installing? This has been a great laptop and I'd rather upgrade the CPU than buy another. Thanks:hi2:

you wont need any driver, the cpu will be instantly recognized
if someone have installed that cpu before on that model it will work, just use good thermal paste and it will be cool and quiet -
I know the T8100 and T8300 work on the P/A300 series, so the T9300 should work, as well...

Thanks sasuke256 but the guy who told me that in the other forum hadn't actually done it; he was just advising. As to BIOS/driver, I'm surprised if it wouldn't need something done because -VT doesn't show up in my BIOS because my CPU doesn't support it, but the T9300 does. Apparently, the other reply is a guy who has done this; so, I'll check with him. Thanks.....I'll take all the advice you can give.

Thanks jotm, if you've actually done it on the 300 series, I'll trust your advice. However, sasuke256 said I wouldn't need to install anything (driver/BIOS). Is that correct? because -VT doesn't show up in my BIOS and the T9300 supports -VT. That's the main reason I want to upgrade to it. Like I said, CPU upgrade was confusing and I really couldn't tell whether it was T9300 or T9400 according to that site. Though I've worked on older Toshiba laptops, I've never had to do anything like this. My repairs or upgrades were with known parts on those. And the more I read, the more confused I get. In fact, the last article I read made me question everything I'd already read over the last week.
