Depends on your machine, it might not even be possible. I would rate it as a 8/10 on the upgrade difficulty scale.

well on my asus i threw in the cpu myself when i built it and i can get it done faster than any desktop HSF so it REALLY depends on the computer, asus usually has ultra easy HW to work with where as companies like apple tend to make their laptops so complicated to open (as well as void your warrenty if you do it yourself) that it would be easier to send it back to them so they can rip you off
