Hi i own a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 with a 1.4 Celeron M. I was looking into upgrading it to a 1.7 celeronM as iv heard it can be done quite easily as long as you use the exact same cpu type. My CPU is a Donthan which is Pentium M based and was made up to 1.7Ghz in either Celeron M or Penium M form(both versions had the 400Mhz fsb). The difference between the two versions (PentiumM and CeleronM) were only that the Celeron has half of the level 2 cache disabled as well as the power management technology(speedstep technology)..

So im just wondering can anyone advise me on this as i would like to upgrade to a 1.7celeron at least and possibly the 1.7PentiumM...??

    I've done an upgrade from celeron-m 1.3 to pentium-m 1.5

It can be done easily, but you NEED to use a dothan pentium-m ... that being said, look for 2M cache, and 400fsb. Anything else will not work. I recommend you upgrade to a pentium, because your battery life will INCREASE significantly

Intel made dothan up to 2.0ghz.

Cool.. Yeah i know i have to use a donthan to be compatible with my motherboard, but to change to a Pentium M i would have to do something with the BIOS wouldnt I? Coz my BIOS is setup for the Celeron M. (On the starting screen it displays the CeleronM logo...

And if i just decided to change to just a 1.7 celeron M as its alot cheaper, would i not have to do someting with the Bios or would the computer just read it straight away.?

In any case, you don't have to fiddle with the bios.

from 1.4 to 1.7 is, in my opinion, not a huge leap. I still support going with pentium !

I agree. Upgrading from a 1.4ghz Celeron to a 1.7ghz Celeron will hardly be noticeable. If you are looking for some performance increase, upgrade to a 1.6 Pentium M (1.6ghz or higher).
