Think I posted in the wrong section the first time...not sure.
Been lurking these forums for months, just finally got my DV6-6000(new HP Pavillion laptop with sandy bridge processors & 6770m graphics).
It's a big improvement over the previous models in most areas. Quieter fan, less heat output, and a much better touchpad for example. The build quality was meh when I got it but fine. Only problem I have is the low resolution screen...there's just not enough space for the work I do.
Is it possible to replace the screen on this laptop safely with a higher resolution screen from a different laptop? Apparently the replacement screen needs to be the same size (15.6", or 13.6 X 7.6), use the same backlight (LED), be supported by the graphics card (I assume the 6770m and integrated sandy bridge graphics support 1080p), not use too much power for the laptop, and the connecter on the screen has to be on the same side as the port on the laptop (I think?). I'm not really sure about any of this so correct me if I'm wrong please.
Would a 1080p screen from the Envy 15 line work? It seems to have the same specs as the DV6-6xxxx screen, other than the resolution. Laptopscreens has them here for 120 dollars (scroll down to the 1080p screens). It seems as though they would work fine in the the new DV6 model.
The only issue that I could arise seems to be the location of the connector. Does anyone know if the connector on the DV6-6xxx's screen is located on the right or left side of the laptop? The connector on the Envy screen is located near the bottom left of the back of the screen.
Can you guys recommend any 1080p screens to replace this crappy DV6 screen? Does it have to be from HP, or are there better quality screens from other manufacturers that would work fine? Would that 1080p Envy screen work fine?
Sorry for all the questions...obviously I've never replaced a laptop screen and don't want anything to go wrong. I just want a nice 1080p display for my new laptop, and no, I don't want to use an external monitor

Safely? Buy another notebook with the screen resolution you need.
If you just got it... I would be returning it.
Good luck. -
Could a 1080p screen from the Envy 15 line work in the DV6? The Envy line is very similar to HP's pavilion line, it seems their screens should be interchangeable.

You sure you want to void the warranty on your new laptop? I wouldn't...

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
The first thing you gotta do is discover which type of plug you have. Then go to a store like screen country and find the necessary model and voila you are done! -

Is there any way to get your screen number without taking apart your laptop? Device manager doesn't seem to have it. -

The best chance of success would be finding the same dimensions and the aspect ratio (shouldn't be hard these days everything being 16:9 and 15.6"). More than likely all HP use the same connector, I have taken apart many of these new HP.
Just a word of warning, getting to the screen requires removal of the palmrest which means all the bottom screws, keyboard. Also the cheapo doublesided taped bezel is super thin plastic and if not taken off with a plastic scribe or spuger will crack it. Serviced too many of these new HPs to be sick of them. -

If you're willing to remove the screen, could you maybe post some photos of the connector? both a zoomed in and a picture that shows the entire back of the panel
Also take a picture of the model number label
We may be able to find a compatible 1080p or 900p screen if we know the exact model number of the one you've got, and have pictures of the connector.
This'll also be helpful for any HP DV6 owners who want to replace their screens. -

And I've done too many new HP with the metallic chassis (dm4, dv4, dv5, dv7) and screen replacements. The old school ones are easier to get to (2008-2010). -
It's an older laptop though, and I know the new DV-Series have a much different design than the old ones. -

Just found this thread from last year. He did the same thing I want to with partial success.
How do I check if my cable is dual channel LVDS? Will I need to get the model number from my screen? -
It doesn't seem like my cable would be dual channel LVDS since it's a 720p screen...apparently it can be modded though.

Any luck shawna?
I ended up here searching for the same thing. Bought a DV6-6090EB but i'd like a better resolution then 1366x768.
My current screen information:
Monitor Name Chi Mei N156B6-L0B
Monitor ID CMO15A2
Manufacturer N156B6-L0B
Model CMO
Monitor Type 15.6" LCD (WXGA)
Date of manufactering 2009
Maximum visible format 35 cm x 19 cm (15.7")
Screen scale 17:9
Maximum Resolution 1366 x 768
Gamma 2.20
1920x1080 resolution would be great -
I decided not to replace the screen. Someone opened up their screen and what he found suggests the LCD cable may be compatible with a 1080p screen, but still there isn't really any concrete evidence.
