    Hi,

I bought this laptop some years ago. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220202

Since I don't know if my laptop have an extra hdd bay, i want to upgrade to a larger hard drive, also replace the memory from 2GB to 4GB, what do you think of these components, are they compatible with the laptop?

hard drive: Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136314

    memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16820145172
too bad, the price of this memory went up like $30+, any cheaper alternative?

your hard drive and RAM will work but if ur paying $75 for the WD , why not try 500GB Hitachi 7K500? Fastest mobile drive and its $89 on newegg... its should run quieter and faster and should make ur system snapier..

As for RAM , look for other brands like OCZ , G Skill.. they'll be cheaper.. also look for DDR2-800 RAM.. its cheaper and will also work because it will automatically downclock to 667MHz... its PC2-6400 RAM...

DDR2 RAM is phasing out of production and being replaced by DDR3... so now stocks going down and prices are increasing..

if ur laptop supports 4GB RAM and u plan to keep it for a while and use RAM intensive apps , then get the 4GB.. no harm done.. better to get it now than later... but if ur like me , i'm getting laptop in 4 months , i won't upgrade.
