I'm planning to buy a Toshiba X200 laptop soon. My only concern as far as it's hardware is concerned is it's big (300GB) but slow HDD (4200 rpm).

Could I upgrade it to a 7200rpm disc without loosing my guarantee and without doing much harm to the battery life and the laptop in general?

If answer is positive, what disc manufacturer would you recommend? I'd like to buy a 200GB disc.

    Big thanks in advance.

Pretty sure it won't void the warranty.
You might loose a few minutes of battery time, but more importantly is that the 7200rpm HDD would be much more louder than the 4200rpm.
If you plan to buy, I would stick Seagate, but there is also Western Digital, Fujitsu, and more, better to just to go with brand names.

As allan_huang alresdy mentioned, the upgrade will not void the warranty. Upgrading is normally very straightforward, and normally invloves just the removal of one panel. The hard disk is then accessible from there. 7200 RPM are very good for speed, and will improve general responsiveness, and also give better load times. However, the battery life may be slightly less, but only by a few minutes. Good 7200 RPM hard disks to consider are Hitach and Seagate ones.

eh? :confused2: I have two Hitachi 7k200 drives in my laptop and I assure you, they're whisper quiet. You can't even hear that they're powered on unless you put your ear directly to the laptop. There is no noticible difference in noise between a 4200 rpm drive vs. modern 7200 rpm drive.

The Hitachi 7k200 fits your requirements perfectly. 7200 rpm, 200 GB size, whisper quiet. It's currently the fastest notebook drive available at any price.
