Okay, so this is my scenario.
I have a 100 GB 7200 rpm HDD that I want to replace with a 500 GB 7200 RPM drive.
Will it work with an enclosure that doesn't support a 500 GB drive? I'm really only copying about 30 Gigs of data at most, and then swapping the drives.
-
If it doesn't support a 500GB drive, then I wouldn't think the enclosure would work very well with it, although it might work.
-
Is this a laptop or a desktop?
To my knowledge the 500gb 7200rpm laptop drives are not available yet.
And my question is this, what enclosure are you using?
I have never heard of a capacity limit on a enclosure.
The only way any kind of limit could be stated was to warn people not to use drives over 500gb, so overheating wouldnt be a problem.
But other than that you could throw a 1.5tb drive in your enclosure and it should work without any problems.
Enclosures are very simple devices. A rectangular box with a SATA to usb or esata adaptor.

You could just get a 320gb 7200rpm, although of course the 500gb 7200rpms should be faster.
