I am thinking about upgrading my laptop's processor. My laptop modem is HP Pavilion DV6670ee, the processor currently in it is:

Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7250 Merom @ 2.0 Ghz

The service manual I got from HP website for my laptop lists these processors and the part numbers:

    2.20-GHz processor (4-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) 453771-001
    2.00-GHz processor (2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) 455515-001
    1.86-GHz processor (1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) 453773–001
    1.50-GHz processor (2-MB L2 cache, 667-MHz FSB) 453772-001

    T7300 2.00-GHz processor (2-MB L2 cache) 446478-001
    T7100 1.80-GHz processor (2-MB L2 cache) 446479-001
    T5250 1.50-GHz processor (2-MB L2 cache) 453033-001
    T2330 1.6-GHz processor (1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) 455944–001
    T2310 1.46-GHz processor (1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) 455943–001

The highest they have listed above is 2.20-Ghz Merom T7500 but a Merom T7700 is available as well on shopping sites and perhaps that is the highest in Merom chips.

So my question now is that T7700 will be supported by my processor? The only difference is processor speed I think. All else is same.

And will it support any faster chips?

You can install anything upto the T9500 (XEs are not advisable).

I presume you know, with a CPU upgrade you'll only notice a performance boost in CPU-intensive tasks.

Go for the T9300 or T9500 is the budget allows. Those are both compatible socket P processors. Just make sure you get a cpu which falls under the Santa Rosa Platform. The Monteveina platform chips will not work in your system.

The main difference between the T7500, T7700 you mentioned and the T9300, T9500 Andy and I mentioned is that the T9xxx processors will run cooler because of their 45nm manufacturing process. The T7xxx use a 65nm process.

P.S. From above I understand that I can upgrade it to processors till Santa Rosa refresh. The 1066 Mhz FSB as compared to 800 Mhz is supported too this means?

Correct? Just don't want to end up buying 1066 Mhz FSB and it not working =(

Nope. The Penryn-Refresh series (1066MHz FSB CPUs) are not supported by the 965 mobile chipset. As said before, the best upgrade will be a T9500 (800MHz FSB).
