This might seem like a no brainer, but can you upgrade an Inspiron 9400 RAM to a 2 GB -single- stick? I don't know if you NEED two separate sticks of RAM for the laptop (2 x 1GB), or if there's any downside to this.
This is the Canadian Dell website for the options for upgrade:

Of course I won't buy from dell, its overpriced in that regard. The reason why I want a single 2GB stick is to just use it for a laptop I want to buy later down the road.
Thank you for the help![]()

Yes, you can have just one stick of 2 GB ram.

I'm no fan of Dell either, my Inspirion 9400's video card is dying on me (the Geforce 7800 configuration) and I've been harassed twice by the same Dell rep calling me back to make a sale I never wanted. I was under the impression that buying direct from Dell wasn't exactly the best bang for your buck, and you could get similar upgrades from other sites. But I did look around and it seems 'somewhat' similar in pricing. *shrug*
Btw, I imagine you returned your 1720 because it was a beast? I have another year with this 9400 for university till I can afford a smaller one.
