    Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR140E that has a DVD drive and I wanted to know if I could upgrade it to blu-ray? I'm looking for just a reader, but if there's a burner that would work that's fine too.

As of specs, I upgraded to the following components, T7500 CPU, 2GB 677ghz ram, and 320gb hard drive.

All other specs are stock. By the way it has a Gl960 Motherboard, but I don't know what type of disk drive it uses (sata, etc.)

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

UPDATE: According to Everest this is my current drive - SONY DVD RW AW-G540A ATA Device

Download a program called "everest" and find out for sure.
Have a look on ebay for the Blu Ray drive ( that's what I did) and you will find bargains there (I got my one for £40)

Which GPU do you have? I would point out that if you're GPU is integrated, it will not help offload decoding from the CPU, which means CPU usage can be quite high and battery life would take a big hit watching blu-rays. I personally find Blu-ray playback works better in XP and AnyDVD HD helps smooth things out playback wise. Good Luck.

I just want to rip the blu-rays, I'm not going to be watching them on my laptop. But my question is what drive would be compatible with my laptop?
