Is there a reason you need even the 3720? The only thing the 3720 has is hardware virtualization whose use took me a long time to understand (and I'm not exactly super tech savvy but I know quite a few things about silicon).

If you don't need that, you don't need the 3720. Or the 3820. If you are going to do processor intensive tasks like programming (in which case, you would probably want to use CUDA; but if not...) then higher the number, the better. Other than that, I don't really see why anyone would get the 3720 or the 3820. The 3920, well, if people want to OC, well they would need that.

What is it that you want from your computer? Any quad core sandy bridge will be sufficient for a long long time. The 3720 is great and barely slower than the 3820. Unless the price difference is $10, it is not worth it.
