    I'll be buying the Aspire 5502ZWXCi IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® M Processor 740 (1.73GHz, 2MB Cache, 533MHz FSB) tomorrow. but it only has 256mb ddr2 ram, i'm planning to buy a 1gb DDR2 ram, but i have 2 questions.

    1. What kind of ram will i look for? The specs said "256MB DDR2 RAM (upgradeable to 2GB)" so will this fit? "KINGSTON 1GB DDR2 (533 MHz) SO DIMM"?

    2. Will I break the warranty if i install the ram myself? The one who i will buy the brand new notebook from said i'll break the ram warranty but not the notebook warranty as a whole. just want to make sure if this is true.

I'd be buying the notebook as a COD from a guy and not from a shop so i have no option to let the seller upgrade the memory.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, that memory should be fine and the seller is right that the warranty will still cover the original hardware but will not cover any replaced equipment (i.e. the RAM). Try crucial.com if you're still unsure - they have a good function for ascertaining the exact type of RAM for your specific machine :)

    1. That memory should work just fine.

    2. Upgading warranty should not break any warranties. the only time when warranty gets broken is when they explictly mention it in the warranty. Most manufacturers allow the RAM to be upgradable, it should not be any different with Acer. The only time the warranty comes into question is if the RAM slots are not easily accessible. If the RAM is accessible by removing screws and a plate in the bottom of the laptop, then there is need to worry about warranties. If in any event you need to send the laptop in for servicing to Acer just pop the new memory out and send it out with the stock memory.
