i've got an Apple MBP with 1gb of ram. i want to upgrade the memory, but not sure if i should upgrade it to 2gb, or go for the maximum 3gb?

im not sure about the prices, but for a 2gb stick, i only found one from Crucial.com for $350. is there a more reasonable price than that?

and by the way, do you know how to upgrade the ram manually?

    PS, MBP uses DDR2 PC2 5300.

I'm sure you will be able to find a better price on eBay.

2 GB of ram should be enough. 3 GB of ram confuses and infuriates me. I think Apple will upgrade the MacBook Pro soon so it can support a 4 GB of ram. If you can hold out until then 4 GB of ram is worth it. Can someone who knows more about Apple confirm or correct me?

Nd-Nd: And what is this emotion you humans call "wuv"?
    Lrrr: Surely it says "love"?
Nd-Nd: No, 'wuv.' With an Earth 'w.' Behold!
Lrrr: This concept of wuv confuses and infuriates us!

honestly, I wouldnt advise anyone to buy computer parts off of ebay unless they like to gamble. I'd say a good 3rd of the gear I have bought there is bunk. Especially stuff like CPU's and ram which can be fried or defective. However, if youcan find a seller with a store on ebay and a good return policy go for it! I'll pay a premium and stick with newegg, monarch and mwave.

Brannigan: "Oh, yes. Right. Nobody destroy Kif." *whispering* "Unless you have to."

2 Gb sticks are very expensive right now, and the price is probably not worth the increase in performance you get. I believe that 2gb is the sweet spot right now
