Guys, I have something very strange to share to you.
I bought a pair of brand new memories (512Mb PC2700 DDR) for my sony vaio PCG-K15. Firstly, I let the notebook off, took out the power outlet and the batteries. Then, I removed those old memories modules and installed the new ones. I put the battery on again, turn the notebook on and started Windows XP. In windows, I ran the AIDA32 software. This software lists all the hardware your system has.
When I access the motherboard menu, it lists the following:
CPU
CPUID
MotherBoard
Memory
SPD
Chipset
BIOS
Everything seems to be ok, except Memory and SPD.
On the memory layer, it shows the Phisical Memory (RAM), the Swap Space and the Virtual Memory. The Phisical Memory is our issue:
It shows a total of 480 Mb (512Mb - 32Mb for shared video), some used, some free and a percentage of usage. Note that the notebook now have 1Gb (2x512Mb) installed.
Thats strange.
On the SPD layer, it shows the description of each memory module installed, here on this layer, it shows the two 512Mb PC2700 DDR.
Right now I´m thinking "What the hell?!"
So, I decide to make a test "Lets take of one of the memory module and left the notebook with only one 512Mb PC2700 DDR"
So, I turn ot off, remove all power stuff, open the memory bay and took of one of the two memories module.
I turn on the notebook again, start windows and run the AIDA32 software.
Right now, on the memory layer, it shows a total of 224 Mb (256Mb - 32Mb for shared video), some used, some free and a percentage of usage. Note that the notebook now have 512Mb installed.
Thats strange, again!
On the SPD layer, it shows the description of each memory module installed, here on this layer, it shows the 512Mb PC2700 DDR.
Well, it seems like my notebook can´t forget their old memory modules.
Does anybody seems something like this before? Any help would help A LOT!!
