    Upgrading Video Card in Dell XPS 1530

    The Dell XPS 1530 I am getting comes with an nVidia 8600M GT. I've heard just some okay things about it and have read that the 8700 is *much* better (plus I've seen it through some 3D Mark scores). The 8600M GT is a dedicated card that is not integrated onto the motherboard. Somewhere down the line, would it be possible to buy an 8700M GT, remove the old card, and put it into the motherboard? I do not know if they have the same dimensions with heat pipes and such.

    The 8600Gt in your xps 1530 is on a proprietary dell port. The graphics card is not an MXM based card, so you will not be able to upgrade your graphics card.

    You can (at best) only get what Dell has ever offered. At worst, you cannot upgrade.

    the graphics card is soldered onto the motherboard so you cannot change it.

    I am reading there is an extra pci express slot by the wireless card to install the Intel Ready Drive. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=219689
    So I posted this idea there:

    But wait, what about that extra slot??? Can we install a new video card there? Is it a PCI express slot? If Turbo Memory isn't worth putting there I'm sure an 8800 mobile would be, perhaps a 9800 Nvidia card down the road??? But what of this idea, with two 8600 gt m's in the system, can they run in sli??? Just something to think about.

    it's probably a pci*1 slot,
    1, there is not enough bandwidth.
    2, not enough physical space.

    the only real upgrade would be an external graphics card.. like the asus or MSI one.. but it just realeased so um have fun waiting. But general concenus is a no on all fronts for upgraded the video card x.x
