    Upgrading Video Card on my Lenovo y450

    Hey guys i own a Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 - 41896AU and have the 4500mhd video card. i Noticed the more expensive model has the nvidia gt 240m video card... I wanted to know if i can just buy the nvidia and replace it.. will it be plug and play and do you think this is a good idea. Thanks

    Its hard. You have to open up the notebook and check what slot does it have. Then you have to find a card that is compatible with that slot. At the end, it might not even work, or temperatures might be sky-high... which reminds me you also need the heatsink.

    Likely uses a completely different systemboard for the gt240M. If so, then options would be replacing systemboard ($$) or upgrading to a system with faster onboard gpu.

    If wanting to keep the current system then only option would be a DIY ViDock or variant of.

    You will need to replace the motherboard, and current heatsink.
    You will need to buy a new motherboard, new graphics card compatible with your laptop, and the proper heatsink.

    This will be costly, and you will void your warranty doing so.
    It is possible though.
