Untill about a week ago I had no idea someone could change their screen...since having a few on here say it can and is done, I haven't found much info through searching or asking within other threads, so I'm starting a thread on the topic.
I'm wondering how you find out what screeens are compatible with a laptop? How does one go about figuring this out? Why aren't people more interested in buying less expensive models, then upgrading the -500 ish models screen?
One model Im wondering about is the 17r inspiron se anti-glare.

Actual physical installation isn't very time consuming if you know what you're doing, but it's definitely more convenient to get the upgrade at the time of purchase. It's also just as - if not more so, depending on the [re]seller - cost efficient to request an upgrade at the time of checkout, than it is to purchase a new screen later down the road, which you may end up getting a used or refurbished product.
Also, there's the complication of compatibility. Also, the issue of voiding the warranty, as saturnotaku mentioned, arises in most cases.
