First time poster, so if I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.
I've owned my Acer AO721 for a couple of years now, and I've been gradually upgrading it for better performance: 8GB RAM from Crucial, then swapped in an Acer AO1551 motherboard with AMD K625 dual core processor, then swapped in a Samsung 840 250 GB SSD, all with no big surprises or problems. Now I've decided to swap in a new Acer 1830T motherboard since it appeared to have the same footprint (it does) and I figured I could get a significant performance boost from the i7-680UM processor. So I chased down the matching fan and swapped everything in.
It runs, but not very well. None of the USB ports work, the max screen resolution is 1024 x 768, and the whole thing is just plain doggy. I figured it needed different drivers, but I suspect there's more to these problems than just drivers. My questions are (1) do I need a different BIOS (I'm guessing I do); and (2) how do I preserve/backup the existing BIOS in case the 1830T Intel motherboard just plain doesn't work and I have to revert to the 1551 AMD motherboard?
In case it matters, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).
Anyone out there been down this path before me? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys
First timer
I have a acer aspire 5742z-4813. The HHD went. It has a Toshiba 640 GB MK6465GSX. IT seems like every HHD I LOOK at got bad reviews. And I don't want to put a Toshiba back again bad reviews on it. So what is a decent HDD. I don't want to spend a ton of money.
Question 2 when I first get I back it up on DVD. So if I put a new HHD IN can use those back up disk or do I need to buy win 7 64bit(that's what came with it). Disk. Thanks for your help.
