ok, be warned, i don't know much about my computer, or computers in general!

Earlier this year i purchased a Clevo P150hm with a 6990m in it, and then the 7900m series cards came out!

I was wondering if buying the 7970m would be a good choice, as in will i see a preformance boost?

Also, is that even possible? is the 7970m compatible with system? what other parts do i need?

7970M has almost the performance of 6990M CrossFireX. It will also run cooler than 6990M. It is compatible with Your laptop, providing that You purchase the card with an appropriate vBIOS (with Enduro disabled).

Thanks for the quick reply! i've been doing some searching for the past few days, and i've heard of all the issues people are having with the 7970m. Not to mention all the terrible driver updates that ati throws out. Would anyone be able to elaborate on what exactly "Enduro" is?

anyway, would it be more beneficial to go with a GTX card? say a 680m? or would it be too hard?

May want to dig into this more. It depends on what "edition" of your P150HM you purchased. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe there are two types of system boards - one of them only work with AMD cards, and the other work with NVidia. Here's one of the threads regarding this info - http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ition-bios-updates-clevo-hm-model-series.html

Do some research and perhaps contact the place where you purchased your laptop to get further details.

The 7970m is in itself a $700 odd upgrade. To be honest, I don't think it is worth it for you to upgrade for another year. The GPU is a beast, but that doesn't mean yours is bad or that it cannot run most games maxed out.

Enduro is something that the HM notebooks don't have so you don't need to worry about it. Basically enduro is switchable graphics (automatically switches from the intel IGP to the AMD GPU and back, depending on what task you are doing, it's meant to conserve your battery). It's just like Nvidia Optimus.

And almost all of the threads where people have issues with the 7970m are because of enduro.

So you would not have many problems because you don't have enduro.

The only real problem at the moment is HDMI output doesn't work when you upgrade to the 7970m, whether you use the clevo vbios or dell vbios.

It does work while you're in dos or if you don't install the AMD driver.

But once the AMD driver is installed, HDMI output no longer works.

If you don't need HDMI out, then the 7970m is a good choice, I have one in my notebook and I haven't had any problems.
