Is it possible? I am planning on getting a laptop soon but knowing that the core duo cpu is out there I am wondering if it would be a good idea (or even possible) to upgrade to the intel core duo from a Pentium M once AMD brings the dual core Turion and the prices drop.

Is it even possible to upgrade those cpus in a notebook? Thanks!

    nope :(
You need a new chipset along with the new core duos, which means new mobo, which means new lappy...

    Like seb said, you can't.

If you want Core Duo, i would get the Core Duo at least. Then if you want to have 64bit, you can swap out the Core Duo with Merom when it is released.

As of today, im pretty sure you can put Merom into a Core Duo, which is a big plus for people wanting a notebook now, but being able to upgrade to Merom when it is released.

Is it confirmed? I have been hearing differently about that. Though pin compatible, it is unlikely that it Merom is supported by current Core-Duo laptops.

I haven't seen that confirmed...so I'd be weary of recommending it to people. I'd feel like an ass if I told someone to buy a Duo based machine and then it turns out Merom isn't compatible with it later on, and they expected to be able to upgrade to it.
