Ok so to be clear the laptop in question is the Acer Predator Triton 700. It comes with two 256GB in raid-0. And not surprisingly 512GB of storage isn't enough. I was considering getting two 512GB Evo 970's, but I honestly don't need the extra speed raid-0 provides. So I figured I'd just go with a single 1TB. Now anytime I've ever done an upgrade like this I've done by doing a clean install of windows.

So the main thing is there a way I can do this without getting a new copy of windows? I don't have a copy of windows 10 so if there is a way to back up the current version I have onto an external drive and put it on the new Evo 970?

The windows key should be embedded in your BIOS, been that way since Windows 8 or 8.1 iirc

I think there is also an application to retrieve that information as well but I cant for the life of me recall it...

Windows will automatically recognize the key, you should be fine. IMO I would go for RAID 0 ssd's ONLY if it is cheaper, only a single NVME ssd is more than enough for most people
