hi..i have an inspiron 9300 with 1 gig of ram and 80 gb hardrive and is 3.5 years old.
how does it cost to upgrade my ram to 3 gb and my harddrive to 350gb please?
please let me know if its worth tinkering with this laptop or better go and buy a new one for around 500 dollars.![]()
also thanks to a 3 year warranty - dell installed a new 1080p HD screen only 6 months back..so if i sell my laptop how much can i expect on ebay please?![]()
wondering whether to take the pains of upgrading this or buy a new one
thanks in advance for all your help![]()

you'll get better performace with a 4gb (2x2gb) dual channel kit ($30-$40), and i think it's about the same price (check newegg) as 3gb.
i also have a western digital scorpio black 320gb 7200rpm hard drive I got for $70.
You won't get much for it on ebay as it stands... 1gb ram and 80gb hd just doesn't look enticing to buyers. If you replace it with the above parts... you could probly pull in $250+ (that's the best case scenario).
I would just upgrade it since you do have a 1080p screen, its cheaper and cost efficient and it (~$100) will run better than a $500 laptop you will be with the same specs or lower. -
Hi wouldnt xp support only 3 gb ram max? also what kind of ram should i search on the net? ddr, bus...etc also for hard drive..ada, ide, sata..etc? i am not technically that sound so need the exact specifications if you can provide please. thx

A good idea would be to get DDR2 RAM, 1066 Mhz and eSATA.

ddr2 ram will be fine, 667 Mhz is more like it.... 1066Mhz comes in ddr3 and I believe your laptop is only compatible with ddr2 so forget 1066Mhz from above post. eSATA is a connection port, so you should just look for SATA hard drives (3.0 Gb/s) they are the norm and are reliable. For performance I recommend 7200rpm. As far as the XP question, although it only sees 3gb max (32-bit OS i am assuming), still look to get ddr2 667 mhz dual channel ram 4gb (2x2gb) for the best performance. I lowered the speed, because your laptop natively supports that speed, if you are into overclocking, then go fo 800Mhz ram, but you will have to adjust that manually via bios.
Just search newegg first, the compare prices with other sites:
RAM (both of these are 667 Mhz)
