    Upgrading hard drive on laptop with different SATA standards

    Currently one of my laptops uses Fujitsu MHY2120BH Hard Drive, from searching it shows to use a SATA 1.5Gb/s standard. Would I be able to install a more modern hard drive that uses SATA 3.0Gb/s instead to the laptop? Thinking about installing a WD Scorpio Black Hard Drive but worried the different spec might not match.

    SATA drives are backwards compatible with previous versions of the interface. You won't run at SATA II speeds, but the drive should work.

    Unless your MB supported SATA III speeds, but it's doubtful otherwise you would have had a faster drive to begin with.

    But you should have no problem with it.

    thanks for the replies, now time to head off to buy a new hard drive.
