    Hey guys,

I'm thinking of upgrading my failing hard drive into something faster, possibly an SSD, using this upgrade kit:

    http://www.amazon.com/Apricorn-Notebook-Drive-Upgrade-ASW-USB-25/dp/B002EUCU3O/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1319792508&sr=1-1

This kit should let me clone all the files from my current hard drive into the new one.

The problem is that my current hard drive has about quite a lot of bad sectors, according to CrystalDiskInfo.

If I clone my old hard drive into the new hard drive, will the bad sectors and reallocated sectors and all the undesirables transfer over to the new hard drive? My Windows 7 installation is only a few months old, so that's fine, but I'm worried about the bad sectors possibly affecting my new hard drive and/or its performance.

A bad sector is a physical thing, cloning data therefore has nothing to do with them. Your drive's firmware deals with them so you don't even have access to their allocation.

The only thing that could happen is you have so many bad sectors that you run out of spares and data is written to one, that data would be corrupted.

Got it, so I guess it should be safe to clone. I'm hoping for the best. Thanks!
