I am going to get an m15x probably in mid June. I am going to get it with the Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz processor and the 8800M GTX graphics card. This is my first with an alienware. I am getting this as my Dell is getting too old for me to design webpages and the upgrades that I could make to it are not in my favor.

My question is will I be able to upgrade my processor to the Penryrn (45 nm) series (meaning the core quad's at 2.6 GHz in the future) and my graphics card to 9800M GTX when it comes out? I can easily get the processor but am not sure if Alienware will sell me a 9800M GTX when it comes out and if they will come out with a firmware upgrade for it. Keep in mind that I would only buy the card until a few months after the 9800M GTX ans same for the 45nm.

    Thanks!

    Ravi

Oh...do any of you know where I can get an Alienware coupon for their systems???

I wouldn't count on upgrading a laptop ever. The m9750 owners were promised 8800gtx upgrade for their laptops right up until the launch of the m17x. Conveniently they then realized after all those promises that the 9750 would not support an 8800gtx. Go figure. Processors are a different story. If it is a true penryn type processor you should be good. If it is a montevina processor, you might be in trouble. AW has apparently stated that the m15x and m17x will not support montevina in their current state. This might change but don't count on it.

AW cuts some small discounts for students and military I think. Personally, I'd shop around in the clevo camp if you want an upgradebale laptop. The 901c has seen processors ranging from the basic C2Ds at launch (E6xxx conoe type) to now supporting C2Q extreme processors and dual 8800gtx cards as well as 3 hard drives. It has actually offered quite a bit of versatility and upgradeability compared to any other laptop currently on the market.
