Hi, just had a quick question about upgrading the ram in my laptop.
My computer uses PC-3200 DDR2 400mhz 200pin memory modules. I've been looking for upgrades and I ran across a couple websites that are offering 533mhz PC-4200 DDR2 for my laptop. I was just wondering about compatibility issues. Can I use 533 mhz PC-4200 DDR2 ram modules in my Sony Vaio FS760/W?

Maybe...but you won't take advantage of the increased speed unless your system supports it. I'd be more inclined to try it if you plan on removing your original chips and replacing with the newer, high speed chips. It'll avoid potential compatibility issues with timing. Even though the chip would just run at the slower speed(assuming your existing memory is just PC3200), there's a chance of instability. I'd avoid that unless someone has confirmed it works on that specific unit.

i also have the fs760w. I coulld not find the pc3200 ram. I bought the pc4200 instead. While installing it, I pulled out the original 512 stick and saw that it was pc4200. I guess that the system can use the faster ram.

Yes you can. The PC-4200 is downward compatible and will work at 400mhz if you use it together with the PC-3200
