    Hi.

I am looking at this netbook made by a company call Hercules , but i have been reading the online forum and one buyer has mentioned that the memory door has a sticker on it warning that replacing the memory will invalidate the memory.

I hear that Asus EEPCC has the same warning but Asus has backed down on this.

Anybody have any advice, apart from buying another make of Netbook.

The description on the website says "1GB DDR2 RAM (easily expandable)". That's a bit conflicting.

It's probably not worth the trouble; just get a different netbook. I've never even heard of this brand.

I'd speak directly with them, because if you look, on the page you linked us to it has this text:

    1GB DDR2 RAM (easily expandable)

Surely if one of their marketing strategies is to advise consumers how easy it is to expand certain items, they would not make it a warranty breaker? Seems odd to me.

EDIT: Curses, beaten to the button by Mastershroom.

EDIT : I think the Netbook is made by a Manufacturer called Mitac.

Resellerratings doesn't seem to hold much on this company. Currently, it's a 4/10 with 5 lifetime ratings. More HERE. In any case, I'd have to say move on, and find a different netbook company.

I have read a few customer reviews on this machine and they are very favorable.

Also I received a reply to my email about the replacement of memory invalidating the memory, the response follows.

    ************************************************************

Thank you for your request. In order to resolve the issue you have encountered with your EC-900-H60GIAW: XP, please refer to our response herewith:

First of all, we thank you for your interest in Hercules products.

We confirm that replacing the RAM memory module of the eCAFÉ will not cancel its warranty.

In fact, the warranty could be canceled under these circumstances only if the new RAM module causes the device to malfunction.

So if you decide to purchase our eCAFÉ, you will be able to replace the existing RAM module with a new one.

You will however need to be careful not to install an incompatible module or to damage the device while doing so.

Do not hesitate to contact us back for any other questions or requests.

    ************************************************************

lol, so basically you're fine unless you break something. It's pretty difficult to destroy your machine whilst upgrading the RAM, and I'm not quite sure how 'bad' RAM would hurt your machine :)

It`s not bad ram that damages the notebook, it`s physical damage done by inserting or removing the memory.

I had a look at a friends desktop motherboard that would not boot after a memory upgrade, he had only pulled one side of the memory stick to remove it and bent the pins on the memory slot.
