I currently have 2x1gb OCZ memory sticks and theres a sale at Fry's for

Fry's/Outpost has 4GB (2x2GB) PQI PC2-5300 Laptop Memory Kit for $50 after $20MIR with Free Shipping.

Would this PQI memory interfere with my OCZ's performance? I plan on sharing the other 2gb stick with a friend, so i'd have a 2gb PQI ram and a 1gb OCZ stick in my computer.

Brand does not matter, but you will not be taking advantage of dual channel this way.

It will be fine with what you have. You will lose Dual Channel like previous poster has stated, but it honestly doesn't make to big of a difference.

I need to update guide, I thought it said but will make clearer. If Intel and a newer chipset it will run "asymmetric" dual channel configuration. In this set up as near as I can figure no downside for 3GB vs 2GB. In 3GB the first 2GB will run as 128 bit (dual channel) the last 1GB will run 64 bit (single channel) but as I understand what is accessed or needed most migrates to the front, the 2GB's that run dual (128 bit) so the last 1GB will prevent pagefile hits vs 2GB setup. Well Ram w/64bit bus is way faster than HDD so no downside.
