I have a HP DV8000 and I am wanting to upgrade the harddrive. From what I've been able to find out the hard drive is definitely an ATA drive, although i'm not sure what type. I found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152110

and i'm wondering if it will work with my setup...is there a difference between ATA-6 and ATA-100?

    Thanks!

ATA 6 and ATA 100 are the same thing. That harddrive will work with your laptop. I would personally go with Hitachi or Seagate. I have never had a Samsung harddrive before. I do not know if they are good.

You should also look on Tiger Direct, Zipzoomfly, and Google Shopping for comparable harddrives.

If your looking for a performance drive, you might want to check out the WD Scorpio 250GB ATA-6, which is equally as fast or as good as a Seagate or Hitachi 7200 RPM drive, infact one the fastest notebook hard drive despite the lower rotation speeds.
