Hi. Will be receiving a Dell Precision M60 from ebay pretty soon.

The hardware specs are in my sig but there still are some things I want to upgrade.

It comes with a crummy Dell TM1300bg wifi card which is based on a broadcom chip and its support in linux is a total no-no. Thus if I were to replace it with an intel pro 2200bg wifi card how hard would that be?? Also would I just have to swap out hte card, disconnect the antennae and then swap in the intel card??

Where can I find the intel wifi card for sale? I have only found it on ebay.

Another thing that I want to know is how to tighten the hinges on a dell laptop. I need to know how to make it so the lcd doesnt wobble as much. Or is this just a common trait with dell laptops??

    thanks for all the help

Well , I heard you could use Broadcom on Linux [They have created a drivers for it..i'm using Broadcom AirForce one as well]. I think its possible for you to replace , assuming its using miniPCI !

Really?? I dont want to use Ndiswrapper and the windows drivers, thats why im looking at the Intel 2200bg. And yes the cards are both MiniPCI

I'm currently using Ubuntu Drapper Drake and surfing with Broadcom 4306 Wifi. The card wont run right out of the box but it is recognised as a device and you will have to make use of the Windows drivers, since Broadcom dont really have any drivers for Linux for it to be natively supported. But it is much better than using ndiswrapper. I am surprised how well it worked but if you want it to work right out of the box, then Intel Wifi is the way to go.

Since the wireless cards are mini PCI cards it is pretty easy to remove and replace.
