Hello,
I have an HP zd7000 wich supports pc2700 ram (ddr 333).
Since newer ram is cheaper than the older I thought of buying that and installing it. Even though it doesn't run at it's full speed, I would be saving money.
What I don't know is if it actually works.
Will the ram underclock itself and work in my computer?
Thanks a lot!!

If you are thinking of trying to put 200 pin DDR2 RAMs into a 200 pin DDR RAM, don't try. It won't work. I think the notch is in a slightly different place, but even if the modules fit then you might fry them.
DDR SODIMMS run at 2.5V while DDR2 SODIMMS run at 1.8V.
You might find some cheapish DDR modules that have been pulled from equipment but, as you have noticed, the price of new modules is higher than for DDR2. Why? The bulk of production is now DDR2 and production was stepped up assuming that Vista would trigger a major shopping expedition for new notebooks and extra RAM.

Good, thanks a lot!! I guess I'll try to snatch ram from somebody's old computer then LOL.
