Hello everyone. I'm an owner of a dv9730nr HP notebook computer. The computer itself is good except for the fact the processor is pretty weak (Intel CoreĀ 2 Duo Processor Processor T5450 1.67 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB). So, I wanted to update the processor to 2.2 or 2.4 ghz and was wondering if these specific processors would be compatible:

The weird thing is, theres a HUGE price difference between the two, yet its only an 0.2 difference in speed.
Any responses would be appreciated! Thanks

It is what it is. I would get the first and save money!

You can find both of those cpus cheaper by shopping around.
Just a quick example:
The 7500 is $243 at newegg.
The 7700 is $319 at newegg.
You may be able to find either cheaper on ebay. -
but will these processors work with my computer?
-
Yeap. Both will work out nicely.
-
okay.....so i decided to go with the t7500. Seems to be the best bang for the price. Ive been reading though that the 65nm chips (as compared to the 45nms) run VERY hot. Do I need to buy an external fan or something else to have this baby work with my comp? Or are my defualt specs fine? Also, does anyone have any reccomendations for other processors as opposed to the T7## series?
Thanks -
Why not buy a 45nm Penryn, either T8100 (2.1 Ghz) or T8300 (2.4 Ghz)?
-
I would advise you to go for the T8300, or the T9300 - if you run CPU-intensive tasks quite often.
(The T8100 is for about $200 Retail w/warranty) -
the t8300 looks good. I take it the main reason the new Penryn processors would be better than the other ones is because of the battery life and the cpu runs cooler?
All in all, I guess its smarter to buy a new Penryn processor as compared to the other core 2 duos with similiar specs right? -
Yes the T8300 is a good performer, runs quiet and cool too.

Just check if it is compatible with the BIOS.
