    Hello-

I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade a laptop screen. For example, instead of having a 15.4" WXGA I would try to install a 15.4" WSXGA+ screen. I wanted to know if lcd's made by different companies will all fit in the same bezel or do you have to get the lcd from the same company who made it.

You have to get a screen made to fit your laptop. To upgrade to a higher resolution screen you are likely to have to replace other parts as well.

yea..i think it would be cheaper to get a screen made to fit your laptop...unless u REALLY want taht higher resolution and are willing to pay that extra money to replace those other parts

It's probably cheaper to get an external monitor - well, maybe not cheaper, but it would definitely be a lot easier ;)

Actually, it probably would be cheaper to get an external LCD monitor. As others have stated, getting a different LCD for your notebook doesn't guarantee compatibility. Especially if it's for a different notebook model/brand completely. There will be a few things that might/will need changing:

    1. LCD itself of course
    2. LCD mounting bracket (as screw holes may not match)
    3. If you change the mounting bracket, you're gonna be canging the hinges as well (attached)
    4. If you changed the hinges, the base cover the hinges mount to will be different, so you need a new base cover
    5. But wait, since the base cover's different, your systemboard won't fit anymore, so you'll need a new systemboard
    6. Well, you know what happens next.....you might as well get yourself a new notebook with the WSXGA+ LCD.

But, if this LCD was made for your unit, but a different config, then you might need a new FL inverter as the power connector/requirements may be different. Same goes for the LCD mounting bracket. You may also need to change the systemboard as well as the video interface cable that plugs into the systemboard & LCD might be different. If this is the case, you'll need a new systemboard as well.

So my recommendation, either get an external LCD monitor, or buy a new notebook with the specs you want. In the long run, it'll end up cheaper.

upgrading or replacing the laptop screen will have lots of troubles. first you have to find the same size as the current one so it'll fit within the frame. and you have to make sure everything fits ahh. lol too many problems.

Thank you very much for all your help. I wish MSI would just market their laptops with either WXGA or WSXGA+ screens and this would be a no brainer. Anyway, thank you again for all the help. I guess I might just be stuck with getting an ASUS z70va (ha, like that is a bad thing; what have I become!!!)
