    hi!

i bought a second hand Acer Aspire 1350 for a bargain price but after some playing around with it i need to upgrade both my cd/dvd reader/recorder and hard drive.

In fact the CD/DVD reader just needs replacement beacause it stopped working after i installed XP and the internet connection drivers :/

The HD i need to upgrade because 80GBs is just to little space for my needs :/

    Current install:
    - PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K12RA
    - TOSHIBA MK4025GAS

I think i'll get a 7200 drive since im at it and i only need a cd rom drive, but i've looked and only seen cd/dvd. if i get a cd-rom reader cheaper than a dvd one i'll probably buy it.

What i'm asking help for is:
    - Where can i buy the parts?
    - How to make sure they are compatible?

    Thanks,

    Vilaça

newegg is a great place for parts.
Compatibility is hard to guess. Read on the forums to see how many people have that laptop and the changes they have made.

    Hello,

Base on your current hardware installment, for HD, get a 2.5" ATA hard drive, not 3.5" or SATA, those are completely different.

As for drive, newegg.com is great place to get them, I bought a slim DVD-burner for my notebook. The cheapest and the only regular slim CD-ROM drive for notebook is cost $36.

I am not sure this will work on your notebook cause of the connection looks kinda old. You will better off buying a CDRW/DVD combo drive.

Are you sure it needs a replacement? It could just need to be reconnected.

You shouldn't have to take it apart. The CD drive should be locked in somehow, usually just a kinda big switch on the bottom. And the hard drive should just need a single door screw undone on the bottom of the laptop to get it apart.
