I was wondering how difficult going about this might be and if it would void my warranty?
I was hoping to maybe purchase and put in a P8600 processor, hopefully it will be faster in gaming and extend my battery life over my current T5800(T7250) processor. From what I can tell you can get a P8600 shipped from Hong Kong on ebay for $150 http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core2-DUO...ptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 and then you can sell your used T5800 for about $80-100.

It would void my warranty. Plus it would not be easy to get so much for your T5800, new ones sell for $100, you might get $60.

You can upgrade your processor. Upgrading to the P series monteveina chips will give you greater performance, less heat and a little more battery life.
I am not sure what ASUS's warranty terms are, but you should have a copy of them from when you bought the laptop. Its best to check with them to see if upgrading voids your warranty or not.
Some brands allow you to upgrade the cpu without voiding the warranty, so it still may be possible.
If upgrading the cpu voids the warranty the only way you can upgrade and keep the warranty is if you have a ASUS tech come and install it for you.

You can check out the performance difference with software like passmark, pcmark, sissandra, wprime, superpi. Just google each program, their are online databases with loads of cpu scores. Just find the ones you are looking for and compare.
Right now you have them ranked in the same way they perform. The T5800 being the slowest and the P8600 being the fastest.
The performance difference between the T5800 and T5850 is negligable. The diff between the T5800/T5850 and the T7250 is probably about 3-5%.
The performance difference between the T7250 and the P8600 is around 10%

Not all the processors on your list are in this COMPARISON OF MOBILE PROCESSORS (CPU BENCHMARKS) but what are there will be close enough for you to make a good assessment/judgment of a processor you might be interested in.

I think it will void the warranty.
Open the bottom tab and see if there is a "Warranty Void If Removed" sticker on one of the screws of the CPU heatsink.
I have a F8Va-C1 and I had to tear that sticker to replace the thermal pad with Arctic Silver 5.
