What's the fastest CPU I can put in a dv6275us?
HP's documentation is confusing. They have 1 service manual for the whole DV6000 line. All these processors are listed, but will all of them work on a dv6275us?
-
It depends on what CPU socket you have, really. That in turn can be determined by what CPU you currently have.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Actually, it depends more on the chipset. If you have Socket P and GL960, that's a whole different range of processors than if you hav Socket P and PM45. On the other hand, GL960 always comes with Socket P and PM45 always comes with Socket P as well.
-
Well it came with a T5600, which is a socket M.
I'm a retard when it comes to these things. I'm one of those "the manual say" guys. -
If it came with the T5600, then I'd say you could go up to the T7600. Honestly, you're not likely to see much of a performance increase unless you run Handbrake or the like all day. You're better off upgrading to faster hard drive.

Handbrake's like, a DVD ripper or something. How would runningthat increase my performance?
And what does a hard drive have to do with CPU speeds.
I'm sorry, I just don't quite get it. If I go from a 1.83GHz T5600
to a 2.33GHz T7600, why would I not see much of a performance increase? -
I just noticed something... My dv8000 has only a 1.66GHz (T2300.) whereas my 6000 has a 1.83? T(hat's kind of retarded.)
This one could definitely use a CPU upgrade no? -
Handbrake is a video encoder. It will run both cores at 100% until it's finished encoding. In that case the faster CPU will have some benefits, but for most typical notebook tasks like Office, Media and Internet, those don't really push the CPU enough that you'd notice a difference. In those cases a faster hard drive which can read more quickly i.e. how fast programs will open, offers a much more tangible benefits.

I'm actually thinking about running Pro Tools LE off it. I don't know if 2.33 will be enough.
-
When then it's probably time for a new notebook.
-
Agreed new notebook.. 3 year old notebooks are quite useless for doing anything other than officework..
-
I would not agree with that statement.
-
Even this old processor?

I only ask because I want to do some experimenting. -

Can try a pinmod overclock as was done successfully on a HP Pavilion DV6871us. So T5600-1.83 went from 667Mhz FSB to 800Mhz FSB (2.16Ghz)

OK, let me explain what I'm trying to do a little better.
I have a dead DV6000.
I want to buy the cheapest CPU that is compatible to diagnose if the CPU is bad before buying a super one. -

Socket M has 478 pins but it is not "socket 478".
The same goes for socket P, it has 478 pins.
Do not get "Socket 478", "socket M" and "socket P" mixed up.
Forget about the CPU, it's not dead.
I will tell you what is dead, let me guess, you have nvidia graphics?
HP + nvidia = dead GPU.
The GPU needs BGA reballing. Or you can try this:

If you dont have an nvidia GPU, I still doubt that the CPU died. -
Moral, my dv6000 doesn't have any "artifacts" as the others in that thread have expressed. Mine won't pot or boot. Every single LED comes on as well as the fan. I only get 1 single short beep when I start up via quickplay button and that's it. Normal power button gives no beeps.
-
Sorry about posting that blatantly wrong information. I don't know what I was thinking.
-
It's cool.
Can someone tell me what the cheapest CPU I can put in this thing is? -

I have seen a bad GPU cause a notebook to not post.
I'm not saying that it is the GPU in your case, but there is a chance. -
-
Cheapest depends on where you're buying it from. What's cheaper from one location may be more expensive at another location, which could sell a CPU that's cheapest for that location, yet more expensive from the previous location.
-
Update: The CPU was toast.
After people on 3 different forums telling me the probably gone, I pulled my T2300 from my dv8000, popped it in the 6000 an sure enough it fired right up!
Then I tried to get smart (I put a T7250 in it) but needless to say that didn't work because it was a socket P. Hey, trial and error, right?!
