Hi guys, I'm a complete newcomer to techie issues so bear with me here....
I've got a Sony FZ21e Laptop which has 2gb RAM. I use it for a lot of music production and performance so naturally it can struggle at times. So, I'm gonna upgrade it to 4gb of RAM, as this is apparently possible. A few questions I need answering though, if possible;
1. What kind of RAM do I need? Are there different kinds (cheaper/expensive) available or one set type? I'd like to get the optimum performance out of it.
2. Will it actually make a difference. I've heard that, on 32 bit operating systems, it's pointless to upgrade, but I'm fairly certain this is 64 bit, Vista Home Premium.
3. How do I install it! I think I saw a link to this actually, so you can ignore it.
4. Do I need to take any other measures after installation, or will it just upgrade itself, so to speak, and start operating as it should.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

1- DDR2 PC667 or PC800. No difference in the price between the two types
2- With Vista64 you can see and use 4GB. With Vista32 you will see and use less than 4GB.
3- The installation is the same for all laptops. The access to the ram is different from one laptop to the other. For most you can access both memory slots by removing a lead fom the base of the laptop. For others, one mmory slot can be accessible by removing the base cover, while the slot will neccessitate taking the laptop apart. Wellat least half of it, since the second slot is located under the keyboard.
4- nothing in particular apart it's good to touch a metallic object like a table lug to remove any static electricity from your body.
Do you really need the upgrade? what do you use ur laptop for? -
Thanks, that's a great help
I use it for recording music, including guitars and vocals, and potentially using it live as a MIDI device with a keyboard in the future. Use a lot of plugins etc as well.
Frankly, I'm being a bit greedy, but seens as it costs next to nothing to get an extra 2gb, I don't see the point in NOT doing it!
Unless you have some reasons I don't know about! -
Since it is likely that you have 2 x 1gb, I would suggest 1 x 2gb so you get a total of 3gb. I'm saying this beause there is no point on having 4gb with Vista 32bit
