I currently have 2x256MB in my system, but I was thinking of adding a stick of 1GB to take the total to 1.25GB.

I have upgraded the RAM in various desktops but never in a laptop before, so I am a bit in the dark about good value RAM suppliers in the UK.

It currently contains (according to crucial memory scan) Non-parity DDR PC2700 200pin.

Crucial recommend PC3200 for my system though - any idea why?

Looking at the prices crucial throw out, it would be cheaper to get 2x512 than 1x1GB...giving a total of 1GB rather than 1.25. Is the 256MB worth it?

So after that waffle, does anyone know any good, value suppliers of this RAM in the UK?

well, im not from the UK to be honest, but iknow the reason why crucial chose a PC3200 RAM.

AMD Platforms support 2 types of memory (as far as i know) PC 2700 (which is 333MHZ) and PC 3200 (which is 400MHZ).

    id go with the latter

And I assume in that case 2x512MB would be better since it would operate at 400Mhz, wheras if I just got one stick it would operate at the slower (333Mhz) speed?

Would this speed improvement be more beneficial than the extra 256MB RAM?

    Thanks for your help!

So, does anyone know a good, cheap UK supplier? The websites of Crucial, Kingston etc all seem pretty expensive. How is ebay from reputable sellers/shops?

They do International Shipping however so I figured I'd pass it on as a back up.

just pop down to your local PCworld and take a check at their component section. You can get 512MB of 333MHz for ~£30 from reputed sellers. Also Anything goes wrong just bring it back. Heh go me. Advertising for the company i work for. Pfft.. I deserve a pay rise
