I have a gateway 6831fx, which I would like to upgrade with a T9300. The price of t9300 has been hovering around $335~$350ish(from lagoom, newegg..etc) since its release. So I have a few questions that I want to ask. 1)When should I be expecting a significant price drop in the T9300? hopefully before Q3 2008 when penryn Quads come out?
2)I've looked into T8300 as well, which is at about $260 ($75 less than the T9300). Is t9300's 3mb L2 and 100mhz increase worth $75?
I've read somewhere on NBR (Correct me if I'm wrong) that said something like "the L2 cache has diminishing returns after 2MB" if so, then it would pretty much pointless IMO to spend an extra $75 on ~7% performance increase..

P.S. I've been reading boards and forums for a good 2~3 months now but I couldn't find conclusive answers to those questions. Also if someone could find or do a benchmark with T8300 vs. T9300 on identical systems it would be great. Thanks a lot in advance! :D

I dont think intel would drop the prices of T9300. Once montevina releases fastest non-xe processor would be at 2.8ghz but the next spread will be 2.53ghz at the same price as T9300. This is just like price of T7700 currently which is close to its retail price.

But the street price might go around the actual retail price which is $316.
