yes sir, you can upgrade up to the t7600

you just can't upgrade to the new centrino duo (santa rosa)

just follow the instructions on the dell website on how to correctly take apart the laptop

to tell the difference between the Santa Rosa ones (third refresh) and the second refresh of the Core series is that the Core 2 Duos have a 667MHz FBS (front serial bus) while the Santa Rosa ones have a 800MHz FBS.

hope that helps at least a little.

    Cheers

You won't notice too much of a difference for the amount of money you would spend to do this upgrade. Better off buying a new Santa Rosa laptop.

Upgrading processors is expensive, and generally not worth the effort, because the performance gains are slim to none. Replacing will also void the warranty of most notebooks. Replacing something else which has a larger impact on performance may be a better idea, such as the hard disk or getting more RAM.
