I have been recently looking at different notebook forums about the notebook i hopefully will buy in the future. I stumbled on this article on this article http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?p=2665344

It states that its possible to upgrade the W2JB CPU from a core duo to a core 2 duo. My question to you is it worth the upgrade and if it is where woudl you get the BIOS for it ?

sorry if this is a complete newb question x.x

Im pretty sure its possible. The drivers would be from the manufacturer if they offer the c2d on the same notebook as the CD then you could easly get it.

I was actually thinking about this stuff myself. And no its not a noob question, in fact if you are a noob i WOULD NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SUGGEST YOU REPLACE YOUR PROCESSOR!

Not really worth it to upgrade from cd to c2d, you won't see a very big difference

I want to upgrade my laptop as well (Dell XPS M140), I want to upgrade to a C2d since I do alot of dvd encoding. i wouldn't advise changing the cpu, I would just sell your old laptop and get a new one.

Hm i've also been wanting to upgrade because my 1.6ghz core duo is pretty sluggish. Is it possible to upgrade my core duo to a core 2 duo in my dv8000t if it has an Intel i945m chipset?

I think it would be possible for some notebooks who are designed with the same chipset because some manufactures do this intentionally so they are able to put more power into there machine without redesigning it. On this note the BIOS has to work with the CPU and thats where i am getting at. I think this is pretty limited to a few notebooks and a upgrade wouldn't be able to bring you from a C2 C2D but rather C2 to C2..

"I would just sell your old laptop and get a new one." <-- this is for the poor folk folk ;) *poor as in me*

Just FYI, but Pentium Ms cannot be upgraded to any of the Core line. The pin outs are different, and the chipset is different.

Also keep in mind that you will not notice the difference in CPU speed unless you use CPU intensive programs, such as SupCom or F@H.

As gator said, it is not worth it unless you do cpu intensive programs. Even thought the C2D is more powerful then the CD. I upgraded my desktop from a 2.66ghz celeron to a Athlon X2 3.0ghz. I only noticed a slight difference is speed, until I started playing games and ran a video encoder, then it was 10x faster.

You can upgrade, but you'll need a BIOS upgrade, which is very hard to find. The TDP rating of a new might be higher, and the cooling system may not be good enough to cope. You literally have to dismante the whole notebook to upgrade the CPU, and its easy to break a circuit board. It's not worth it. The time, effort, and money need to upgrade really does not justify the speed gain.

Your chipset will accept a C2D, but you will need a bios update. And as everyone has mentioned, you will only see a small increase in speed.
