Sorry for the dramatic title, i know that must drive people crazy because people do that constantly.

Anyway, my friends laptop... The computer just shut off, im not sure if its the battery or something else, usually on battery it sleeps, but not this time- just off... so im guessing this is more serious. We plugged in the power supply. (The power block cord is pulled a bit and you can see the copper wire. Its taped, and when we hooked it in the laptop i think it got pulled out. So after connected we retaped it. Idk, the light was on the whole time i think,, so im not sure if it did disconect.) Anyway, so the battery charge light is on, but the pc wont power up! when he power button is pressed, the light stays off for a few seconds, then back on. The PC is not hot at all and wasnt under heavy load. Im not sure what happened... shortage, electric shock, burned out something, etc. Im not sure. PLEASE HELP!

try turning it on then quickly remove the plug...

I know it sounds dangerous but that is what i did.

    and it worked

forgot to add that after doing it. plug it in again and try to power up your laptop

Sounds like it may be the power supply. If the cord was like that, it may have 'burned out" or Fried the power supply in the computer if it like connected partly at the wrong time or something and short circuited it. im not sure but that what it sounds like to me...

You can take a digital multimeter and test a few points on the laptop to see if its getting power, I cant walk you thru it without having the same model laptop but its a easy and cheap way to know if the power supply is broken.

Alright, do not bring it to a computer store, they will charge you a fortune.
I would start taking the system apart and ensuring everything is connected properly. A wire could have came loose or something like that.
If you can, can you test the memory cards one at a time. A defective memory card will stop the system from booting.

Its basically trial and error until you can figure out what works, and what doesnt work.
It may be electricall interference, since the ac adaptor plug is ripped.
